Platform — Edge Connector

Wi-Fi monitoring that survives internet outages.

The TekFidelityIQ Edge Connector is an on-site software agent that keeps monitoring your network locally when the WAN goes down — storing every event, health metric, and alert, then syncing the full timeline when connectivity returns.

Outage-resilient monitoring

Collects and stores telemetry locally when the WAN is down. Syncs the full event buffer when connectivity returns — no gaps in your monitoring timeline.

Per-target health checks

Active checks on gateway, AP management interfaces, DNS servers, and HTTP endpoints — so you know exactly what went offline and when.

LTE / 5G / Starlink out-of-band

Connect the Edge Connector to a secondary LTE or Starlink link for sites that need visibility even during a complete primary WAN failure.

Local buffering and sync

All events, health metrics, and alert states are buffered locally. When the WAN returns, TekFidelityIQ syncs the buffer and builds a complete incident timeline.

Architecture

How the Edge Connector works

The Edge Connector runs as a lightweight service on a small device at each site — a mini-PC, NUC, or existing server. It collects SNMP and syslog telemetry from your access points and network devices, performs active health checks on configured targets (gateway, AP management interfaces, DNS servers, HTTP endpoints), and calculates local health metrics.

Under normal conditions, the Edge Connector streams health data and events to TekFidelityIQ's cloud over HTTPS. All communication is outbound-only — the connector reaches out; nothing reaches in. No inbound firewall rules are required.

When the WAN goes down, the Edge Connector continues collecting locally and stores all events and metrics in a local buffer. The buffer capacity is sized to handle hours of site outage at normal data rates. When the WAN returns, the connector syncs the full buffer — TekFidelityIQ reconstructs a complete timeline of what happened during the outage, including exactly when the WAN went down and when it came back.

For sites with secondary LTE, 5G, or Starlink connectivity, the Edge Connector can be configured to use the out-of-band connection when the primary WAN fails — providing real-time monitoring visibility even during a complete primary internet outage.

FAQ

Common questions

What hardware does the Edge Connector require?
Any small x86 device — a mini-PC, Intel NUC, or existing server. A $100–$200 mini-PC is sufficient for most sites. No dedicated hardware sensors or special network access beyond SNMP reach to your APs is required.
Does it work during a WAN outage?
Yes. The Edge Connector collects and stores data locally during outages. When connectivity returns, the full buffer syncs and TekFidelityIQ rebuilds a complete timeline — no data gaps.
Can it use LTE or 5G as a backup connection?
Yes. The Edge Connector supports out-of-band LTE, 5G, and Starlink connections. Configure the secondary interface and it will automatically use it when the primary WAN fails.
Does it require inbound firewall rules?
No. All communication is outbound HTTPS from the Edge Connector to TekFidelityIQ's cloud. No inbound ports need to be opened.
What targets can the Edge Connector check?
Gateway IP, AP management interfaces, DNS servers (UDP/TCP), and HTTP/HTTPS endpoints. Results appear in the TekFidelityIQ dashboard per-target with latency and availability history.

Never lose visibility during an outage again.
